Kate is ‘doing well’, says Wills as he pops into the pasty shop

PRINCE William revealed that his wife is ‘doing well’ following her cancer diagnosis on a visit to the Isles of Scilly yesterday.

He spoke to staff at St Mary’s Community Hospital who asked him how the Princess of Wales was doing following her announcement in March that she was undergoing preventative chemotherapy.

‘She’s doing well, thank you,’ William said.

The prince, 41, was given a letter by matron Lynda McHale, written by her granddaughter, that wished the princess and the King well in their respective cancer recoveries.

The trip marks William’s first official visit to the Isles of Scilly since becoming Duke of Cornwall, a title he holds in addition to his Prince of Wales title.

He receives an income from the Duchy of Cornwall – a £1.2billion portfolio of land, property and investments – which owns much of the Isles of Scilly and nearly a third of its residential buildings.

The duchy is working with the local council to build an integrated health and social care facility on land it owns adjacent to the hospital. William told several members of staff that he was keen to learn more about what was needed on the islands and how the duchy could help.

‘Keep flagging anything else that we can do,’ he told them. ‘I’m hoping to do more down here where you guys want it.’

He arrived on St Mary’s by boat having travelled from Tresco, where he stayed overnight, and even managed a dip in the sea, he later revealed.

He hailed the ‘glorious’ weather before strolling to the On The Quay cafe where he could not resist snapping up five Cornish pasties for £5.50 each.

‘I’ll take the traditional one,’ William said. ‘Five... they’re not all for me!’

Outside, he was greeted by a group of tourists lined up on the harbour to meet him, admitting he wished he could stay.

‘My family are very upset I’m here without them,’ he laughed. ‘The children will kill me if I don’t go home later.’ The family have previously enjoyed private family holidays on the islands.
