Liz Earle, 61, took ten years off age to find love

- Daily Mail Reporter

THERE is many a tale of men who lie about their age on dating apps in the hope of meeting a younger woman.

But beauty entrepreneur Liz Earle, 61, reversed the cliche when hunting online for a man following a divorce in her 50s.

She revealed how she took ten years off her age for her dating profile – apparently to great success, as she is now with a man 17 years her junior.

Ms Earle made the candid confession on the How To Be 60 podcast. She explained: ‘I was 59 at the time and I’d just done one of my genetic tests for my book and it came up as 39 so I thought, there’s quite a big difference, what am I going to do?

‘If I put 59, is he going to expect somebody who behaves in that way, perhaps there’s a perception to it?

‘So I split the difference and I put 49.’

After a handful of dates, she said ‘there was nobody really that sparked’ until she received a message from ‘quite an interesting younger guy’. She added that ‘a year later we’re about to have our anniversary’.

Ms Earle said that she ‘wanted to manage expectations in the best way but I did have to fess up very quickly’.

‘I did say and I was a bit nervous about it,’ she said.

The businesswoman, who grew up in Portsmouth, founded Liz Earle Beauty in 1995 and has written more than 35 books on beauty, wellbeing and nutrition.

Ms Earle said her online search for a partner had not been without its hiccups. She switched to a dating website from an app after being blocked for supposedly impersonating herself.

‘I was very honest: I uploaded pictures of myself [but] I just changed my name very slightly. Anyway I got blocked for impersonating Liz Earle,’ she said.
