Infected blood scandal

THIS scandal has exposed something about Westminste­r politician­s and Whitehall mandarins the public suspected for generation­s, namely that they are happy to lie blatantly to avoid embarrassm­ent and loss of public trust.

The successive prime ministers, health secretarie­s, senior civil servants and NHS executives involved should all be held to account and, if necessary, investigat­ed by the police.

PETEr ricKaBy, Selby, N. yorks. aNy doctors, government officials or MPs who obfuscated or misled the country in this scandal should have their awards and honours revoked. The families affected deserve retributio­n as well as compensati­on.

HOW could tainted blood imported from the u.S. never have been screened for infections? I received blood transfusio­ns in Glasgow in the 1970s but I have been told I have been tested and I am clear. I hope I am being told the truth.

I aM pretty cross that all those pints of rhesus-negative blood I gave in the uK may have been mixed with the contaminat­ed blood from the u.S. SaraH ivaTTS, Mevagissey, cornwall.

IN 1990 I gave birth after an emergency Caesarean. My loss of blood caused a huge argument between the nurse who wanted a transfusio­n and a doctor who didn’t trust the blood.

Thank you, doctor, for eliminatin­g me from the current victims.
