CHEF’S CHOICE

Sous chef Jamie Scott from Rocca Restaurant in St Andrews chooses six of his favourite restaurants

SOL Y SOMBRA, BROUGHTY FERRY

I simply love the tapas daily set menu here and the general freshness of the produce and seafood. It’s almost like being in Barcelona – with great wines, sangria, and amazing staff. 01382 776941; email hola@solysombratapasbar.co.uk

ONDINE, EDINBURGH

Here’s where to find simply the best seafood in Scotland, in my modest opinion. The champagne and oyster bar is a treat and I admire their caring philosophy of using sustainable fish. 0131 226 1888; www.ondinerestaurant.co.uk

THE WITCHERY, EDINBURGH

For me, it’s the total experience here that is so enjoyable. The experience and atmosphere – the oak ceilings and its setting at the base of Edinburgh Castle – are matched by the quality of the fare. My favourite food here is the beef tartare and I love the amazing wine list. 0131 225 5613; www.thewitchery.com

MAMMA’S PIZZA, EDINBURGH

This is for when we’re feeling in an Italian mood. I go there with my wife, Kelly, three or four times a year, especially in the summer when you can sit outside. It’s great for wood stove oven pizzas, chicken wings, goat’s cheese and Portobello mushroom. 0131 225 6464; www.mammas.co.uk

THAI KHUN, ABERDEEN

This is my favourite when the exotic takes my fancy. It’s a bustling restaurant serving Thai street food and feels like an authentic street market. My favourite dish here is the Red Thai pork belly with jasmine rice. 01224 583477; www.thaikhun.co.uk

CAFÉ TABOU, PERTH

I love the amazing ambience of this laid-back restaurant which has the atmosphere of a traditional Parisian bistro. Try the great traditional meat dishes and take a look at the French salads. 01738 446698; www.cafetabou.co.uk
