Scottish Field

THE GRAND TOUR...

- Elspeth Brewin, Bermuda

I live in Bermuda and I am a subscriber to Scottish Field, and I wanted to say many thanks for such a wonderful magazine each month.

I love the review pages, indeed, I enjoy the entire magazine, from cover to cover.

In fact, you may like to know that once we have read the magazine, it gets passed on to the Church of Scotland minister here in Bermuda, and from there goes on to my husband’s Scottish barber in New York City! I’m sure it gets recycled many times from there too.

I’m coming to Scotland at the end of May with my American husband. It will be his first visit – and what a treat he has in store for him.

When we arrive in Scotland, we will head west to visit Glasgow and Loch Lomond, then travel by boat to Loch Fyne for some sailing at the Scottish Series in Tarbert.

After a few days there, which I’ll ensure includes Inveraray and hopefully Oban as well – you did a really interesting article on Oban not that long ago, as I recall – we intend to do a bit of exploring. After a couple of days in Edinburgh (we’ll get there by train from Glasgow to avoid the horrors of trying to park a car in the capital), we then go on to Stirling and Crieff.

From there we will travel north as far as we can manage without running out of time – I was thinking maybe to Fort William – before heading for Aberdeen, St Andrews and then the East Neuk.

I thought I might send you a few spontaneous reviews if we find any hidden gems by accident!

Now, we just have to hope for fair weather so my American first-time visitor can see Scotland at her finest.
