The Glory of Glamis Many things have been said and written about this ancient Scottish castle over the centuries. From romantic tales of ghosts and secret chambers, to the reminiscences of the World War One soldiers who were nursed back to health within the walls, Glamis has a fascinating history. The ancestral seat of the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne since 1372, Glamis Castle has a place in the nation’s psyche. This quintessential Scottish castle has seen everything from the burning for witchcraft of the sixth lady Glamis by King James V, to the visit of his daughter, Mary, Queen of Scots, and several of her descendants, up to and including the present Queen. The late Queen Mother was the youngest daughter of the 14th Earl, and Her Majesty’s sister, Princess Margaret, was born in the castle. To find out more, why not visit this summer?
