My sister and I, not forgetting Millie my Border Terrier spent a delightful weekend at this splendid and well appointed house – it is attractive and well designed, having all the amenities one could wish for. Gamefield has five double bedrooms and sleeps up to 10, while The Indie House has two double bedrooms. Gamefield sits in a beautiful valley with extensive views far off into the hills. Upon arrival the automatic gates opened and our first impressions were breathtaking.

Audrey, the concierge, gave me the grand tour, letting me know that if there was anything at all I needed she was there. There was also a lovely welcome basket filled with delicious treats – Millie was given a bowl with her own biscuits.

On the main level is a huge foyer leading to an open-plan kitchen and dining area with a family room looking over the well-maintained front gardens.

Next door to the kitchen is a luxurious dining room, we did not use this room as there were only two of us, however, it would be fantastic for larger groups and special occasions. Also on the ground floor is the very comfy lounge, an ideal place to read, chat or listen to music – every room is connected to the music system, which is, again, of very high quality. Finally, there is a pretty bedroom, with the main, beautifully finished bathroom directly across from it.

A lovely curved staircase leads from the hall to the other four luxurious bedrooms, which we had fun choosing from. Each had an en suite bath or shower room, while the huge master bedroom had its own dressing room and full bathroom with a lovely roll top bath and walk-in shower. The bedrooms are impressive with top-quality bedlinen and soft furnishings.

At the bottom of the garden is a summerhouse with a wood-burning stove, fridge, glasses and comfy chairs. This opens out onto the deck with hot tub, where we spent much of the afternoon. We were very impressed with everything about the house – it is well equipped and spotless – and would have no hesitation in recommending it, especially for families as it has a safe and enclosed garden. In fact, the whole area is beautiful, with wonderful walks nearby, small villages to explore and good places to eat out. Prices from £2,445 per week in low season
