Kingsmills Hotel, Inverness
Reviewed by Jim & Isobel Bogan and Lola from Bankfoot
On arrival at Kingsmills we were very speedily checked in by the friendly and efficient receptionist. We were give a room in a wing of the hotel that seems to be dedicated to dog owners, which makes a very refreshing change. In the past we have been given what I would consider sub-standard rooms, just because we happen to have a miniature Yorkshire Terrier, which we usually keep in her cage. Plus there is no charge for the dog, another refreshing change.
Some doggie treats in the room for Lola and a good bottle of red for her owners were a nice touch. The room was more than 300 sq ft, with patio doors leading onto the garden, ideal for taking out our four-legged friend. One thing my wife did comment on was a lack of doggie bins.
We decided to take a stroll down to the bar for a few drinks and relax after the drive. Service was both friendly and efficient from all the bar staff.
At dinner we were greeted by Anu who showed us to a table overlooking the gardens. All the staff were very attentive, without being obtrusive, but I must single out Anu for his courtesy, warmth and his knowledge of fine malts.
Our meal was outstanding. I had the scallops, followed by a beautiful loin of red deer. Isobel had a salad of rare Speyside beef and then breast of duck. After a nightcap we enjoyed a comfortable night’s sleep.
All in all it was a very pleasant stay at a very well run, privately owned hotel, where the staff obviously enjoy making you feel very welcome.
