Entrepreneurial graduate Jennifer Hope teamed up with her father, Ian, a builder and developer for 23 years, to create the innovative new business in 2013. Jennifer was inspired to launch the Ayrshire business after house-hunting with her fiancé and finding that there was nothing they could afford.

‘I love the traditional features of old, country houses, but everything we looked at was too big and far too expensive – this inspired me to design the “wee house”. It’s the size of a large one-bedroom flat, but with the amenities of a grander house – such as the two sets of French doors, patio area and full-size dining kitchen,’ says Jennifer.

There are a number of garden annexes and modular homes on the market, but this one is different. Not only is it a real, certified dwelling which is mortgage-able, but it is sold as a turnkey package including paint work, a fitted kitchen, bathroom and heating system for just £75,000. It really is fantastically cost-effective.

Wee Houses are constructed as modular units at the company’s Ayrshire workshop and have reached all corners of the UK, from Wick to Essex. From start to finish the build process takes just eight weeks.

Jennifer’s team now offer studio and two-bedroom options, as well as the original one-bedroom Wee House.
