Hillstone Lodge, as it’s known, was completed three years ago, with the business running for two, so how is Andreas finding island life? ‘I’ve lived in London and in Switzerland I always lived in big cities, so this is quite different. But the people are friendly and they’re open, so it has been fine. There is definitely a thing called “island time” though – there’s no sense of urgency here, which is sometimes wonderful and sometimes a little frustrating.
‘As for running a guest house, my years of travelling had given me strong ideas about the hospitality business and what I liked and didn’t like. My opinions have now been put into practice – and they seem to be working. We’ve been fully booked since we opened, so I think we must be doing something right.’
