POTTER PEW

-

A chair given free to Harry Potter author, JK Rowling has been sold at auction in New York for £278,000. The 1930s oak chair was one of four mismatched chairs given to the author to furnish her council flat in Edinburgh. Rowling wrote Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets while sitting on the chair, which has been auctioned twice before, once by Rowling to benefit the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. Before she donated the chair, Rowling painted on it ‘I wrote Harry Potter while sitting on this chair.’
