The Vel­vet Easel, lo­cated in Portobello, is a con­tem­po­rary art gallery which ex­hibits an eclec­tic range of paint­ings, ce­ram­ics, sculpture and unique jew­ellery. This March the Open Eye Gallery will show an ex­hi­bi­tion of new paint­ings by the Ed­in­burgh-born artist Sarah Car­ring­ton. Her at­mo­spheric land and seascapes evoke the ever-chang­ing weather and lu­mi­nous colours of the Scot­tish and Irish coast­lines, not­ing the sim­i­lar­i­ties be­tween the two Celtic lands. In her first ex­hi­bi­tion in Ed­in­burgh since 2014, Beth Robert­son Fid­des has pro­duced a pow­er­ful, evoca­tive and dy­namic col­lec­tion of new work. With a re­turn to her High­land roots, Beth has deep­ened her con­tin­u­ing artis­tic ex­plo­ration of land and sea.
