Couple’s dream home built in Argyll
Ewan Colville bought a plot of land on the shores of Loch Awe in 2006. The plan was to build a holiday cottage. The plot itself is breathtakingly beautiful and he and his partner, Jennifer Gilmour, fell in love with the area immediately. The couple proceeded to engage an architect to design a contemporary two-bedroom property, however, after gaining planning consent it became clear that costs were way over budget. Having already spent thousands, their self-build dream was stopped in its tracks.
Luckily in 2015 the couple came across The Wee House Company run by young entrepreneur Jennifer Higgins. As the company handles all aspects of a build project, from design through to completion, the budget could be controlled right from the outset.
Jennifer Higgins of The Wee House Company explains: ‘We have three classic house types; the studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom. However, we also design Wee Houses to suit our client’s requirements and their plot of land.’
Ewan and Jennifer’s beautiful, bespoke Wee House incorporates a large open-plan living area, two bedrooms and two bathrooms. It capitalises on the truly stunning views of Loch Awe with double French doors from the lounge and both bedrooms facing the loch. The entire project – including obtaining all necessary consents, service connections, ground works and, of course, the build itself – was completed for just £142,000.
Work commenced on site on 29 March 2016, with the house being delivered on 11 April. By the 29 April the beautiful Wee House was complete. The couple have said: ‘Working with The Wee House Company was incredibly painless and we hardly had to do anything.’
