The definition of luxury is personal and means different things to different people, but to Tracy Walker of Callum Walker Interiors it is simply something that is a pleasure to use, touch, taste, smell or look at. It adds extra comfort to daily life or can be a simple item that is beautifully made or well thought out in the design. It does not have to be expensive but it is an indulgence and should always bring joy to the owner. Tel: 01738 638822, www.callumwalker.com

A ubiquitous word for our times, ‘luxury’ is used to sell everything from cars to cosmetics. It’s how Laings describe themselves – as a retailer of luxury kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms. Luxury is so much more than the products they sell, it’s an experience which is personal to every customer. It’s an ethos which they embody at every stage in the process, from the first showroom visit to the final project sign-off and aftercare. Every home should be unique to its owner and that’s why every kitchen, bathroom and bedroom Laings create is designed to the unique requirements of their customers. Luxury needn’t be something that breaks the bank, a sense of luxury is achieved by focusing on natural materials: woods, marble and other stones, brasses and coppers. The juxtaposition of these differing materials in an interior and their individual aromas can bring about a sense of luxuriousness that needn’t rely on brand credentials. &tradition, displayed in Moleta Munro’s showroom, are currently masters of combining natural materials to create a sophisticated look of luxury. Being able to escape to a personal retreat at the bottom of the garden is certainly a luxury to treasure. In a specially designed garden room, kitted out with Wi-Fi, surround sound, underfloor heating, coffee machine and fridge, the flexibility and indulgence this space offers is superb. Perfect as a work out, chill out, or party pad at home, these garden rooms offer superb quality and the ultimate in luxury escapism… or on the practical side they make a perfect office or work space. Formerly associated with tangible status objects, ‘luxury’ is now much more about unique experiences. This concept has now filtered through to interior design with people wanting their homes to be a unique reflection of their own personal style. Bespoke is the new luxury and it needn’t always have the associated ‘luxury’ price tag along with it. This is at the heart of what Cotterell & Co’s new Rocke brand is about. Their customers can design their own lampshades choosing from the massive range of fabrics and linings or supply their own fabric resulting in a totally unique product.
