GET IT OFF YOUR CHEST
A campaign chest belonging to the Duke of Wellington’s Aide-de-Camp is due to go under the hammer. Brought in by a private vendor to Holts Auctioneers, Sir Alexander Gordon’s chest will be auctioned off on 21 June 2018. Killed at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Gordon was the third son of Lord Haddo and had joined the army in 1805. Having fought in the Peninsular War in Spain during the Napoleonic Wars, he later became the Duke’s right-hand man. Although an estimate of £200-300 has been put on the chest, it is likely to go for considerably more.
