BEE-AWARE

Scottish Field - - COUNTRY NEWS -

An outbreak of European Foulbrood (EFB) has been detected in two honey bee colonies in apiaries near Perth and Dumfries. The bacterium that causes EFB is spread through the contamination of beekeepers’ tools and equipment. Less serious than American foulbrood (AFB), EFB is treatable and doesn’t require hives to be destroyed. However, officials are asking bee farmers to remain vigilant and have requested that beekeepers in the area register with Beebase for updated information.
