Westlands Country Park, Dumfries & Galloway

Welcome to Westlands Country Park, the home of Scotland’s finest clay pigeon shooting ground and fishing ponds. Whether it be pulling a 12Ib tiger trout, shooting a 140ft high crosser or simply relaxing in a hot tub while watching Scotland’s nature at it’s best, this park has it all.

Designer and director Peter Taylor, a member of the park-owning family, has built Westlands to be the north’s number one go-to destination for challenge seekers and ultimate relaxation.

Aimed both at novices and professional sports people, the park has three acres of fly and coarse fishing ponds stocked with a wide range of species including 12Ib tiger trout.

Westlands is also an exceptionally high standard clay pigeon shooting venue with a 140ft high tower – the highest in Scotland – from where clays are propelled to simulate driven birds. The 22 acres of shooting ground also includes 60 of the highest quality new supersporter Promatic traps on the market to date, with some clays being triggered by voice activation of the electronic launching system from 25 stands. Whether it be a rabbit thundering over a jump or a looper dropping in over the sunset, the shooting ground has it covered. Competition shooting events are already being staged at Westlands, though shooting tuition from qualified instructors is also available for those new to the sport.

For guests who prefer to engage more gently with the great outdoors, the park also provides a network of discovery trails in its grounds covering both woodland and moorland, which are free to discover with your canine companion. Despite the away-from-it-all character of this picture-postcard park, park director Peter Taylor says its facilities are entirely focused on meeting modern visitor expectations.

An expansion of Westlands’ current cafe/reception building will be coming in late 2018 to include a country sport shop with gun room, fishing tackle and clothing, and a bistro.

The lodges, all of which have private hot tubs, are firmly in the luxury bracket and super-fast broadband is arriving in June 2018, which means guests can easily upload photos of their sporting accomplishments.

Whether it be a fine coffee, the best clay, the biggest trout, a bubbling hot tub or the most indulgent lodge, Westlands Country Park is the epitome of ultimate relaxation.

Lilliardsedge Holiday Park, Scottish Borders

The origins of Lilliardsedge Holiday Park date back to the 1960s and it is probably one of the longest established parks in the Borders, with upgrades and expansions, particularly in recent years.

The park is firmly founded on friendly service from park to bar to restaurant and of course the golf course, which all marry together to bring benefit and leisure to families. The golf course hosts regular medal and trophy days and creates a good, relaxing atmosphere throughout the park.

There is deep history surrounding the name, apparently originating from ‘Maid Lilliard’ – and the park is situated between the market towns of Kelso, Jedburgh, Hawick, Melrose and Galashiels, each with its own history.

Many perimeter park pitches enjoy stunning views both across the golf course and towards the Cheviot Hills. One or two of these fantastic pitches are available and Lilliardsedge will consider part exchange should it be required.

This three-generation family concern is well established with several similar businesses throughout the borders, Lilliardsedge being the jewel in the crown, a place and park for everyone. The business model has always been no catch, no gimmicks, just good value.
