Scores 4.7, 4.1, 4.7, 4.5, 4.5, 4, 3.6, 5 To­tal score 26.5 Tast­ing notes from Alan: ‘Cream, salty, vanilla.’ Tast­ing notes from Colin: ‘Hint of smoke, charred steak, bon­fire, salty, dry roasted peanuts.’

3 Port Askaig 14 Year Old Bour­bon Cask – Elixir Dis­tillers

Scores 4, 3.8, 4.6, 4.3, 4.6, 4.4, 3.1, 5 To­tal score 25.7 Tast­ing notes from Neill: ‘Lemon and smoke, sea breeze, coastal, fudge, pep­per, liquorice.’ Tast­ing notes from He­len: ‘Like be­ing slapped by a piece of sea­weed. Io­dine, al­mond cake, brazil nuts and ba­nana bread.’ Scor­ing: The read­ers were asked to award each of the 22 whiskies that got through from the knock­out round a mark out of five. We then took away the high­est and low­est scores and used the re­main­ing marks to pro­duce an over­all score for each ex­pres­sion.

To­tal score 25.3 Tast­ing notes from Robin: ‘Light and smoky, pep­pery with a cit­rus twist.’

6 Glen Grant Sin­gle Malt Scotch Whisky 10 Year Old – Glen Grant Ltd

To­tal score 25.1 Tast­ing notes from Leanne: ‘Nose is can­taloupe melon, peach, mus­cat. Grassy and fresh on the palate. Short and cleans­ing fin­ish.’

To­tal score 24.5 Tast­ing notes from He­len: ‘Oak nose with slight sherry and pep­pery notes. Taste is fruit cake, caramel, prunes, trea­cle. Spicy, sweet fin­ish.’

9 Bun­na­hab­hain 12 Year Old Sin­gle Cask Sin­gle Malt Scotch Whisky – Loch Fyne Whiskies

To­tal score 24.5 Tast­ing notes from Jack: ‘Light and hon­eyed on the nose, a lot more depth on the palate. Fin­ish spicy, dark fruits and raisins. A gen­tle gi­ant!’
