FROM SCOTLAND WITH LOVE
Sotheby’s annual sale of Scottish Art took place on 20 November. Some highlights of the sale were Roses in a Glass Vase by Francis Campbell Boileau Cadell (pictured) which sold for £125,000 and Winter Rose by Charles Rennie Mackintosh which made £100,000.
Thirsty work
Lyon & Turnbull is holding their inaugural Whisky and Spirits Sale in Edinburgh on 5 December 2018. With demand for quality whisky outstripping supply, this is an opportunity for collectors to snap up some rare drams. A highlight to look forward to is a rare miniature from the long-lost Orkney distillery of Stromness, which closed pre-WWII in 1928.
OVER THE ASKING
In the year of the 150th anniversary of the visionary’s birth, Lyon & Turnbull sold two rare armchairs designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh for £187,500. The oak armchairs were valued at £30,000-£50,000 each and were designed for the men’s Billiards and Smoking Rooms which occupied the top two floors above Miss Cranston’s Argyle Street Tea Rooms in Glasgow.
