There are around 10,000 allotments in Scotland. Some 4,600 people are on Scottish allotment waiting lists. In 1947 there were over a million plots in the UK providing 11% of our fresh fruit and vegetables. Now only about 3% of fresh produce is home-grown. Just 30 minutes of gardening a day boosts mental and physical health.
