THE LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHER
I am Argyll born and bred so being able to promote Argyll and Glasgow has been an absolute dream. The beauty of this landscape inspired me to pick up a camera and alight my love of photography. Over the week I drove 600 miles visiting places which I have frequented since childhood along with discovering new places. What makes the landscapes of Argyll so great is that they are very varied. On Mull there are dramatic cliffs, Easdale has slate quarries, Kintyre offers sweeping golden beaches and on Cowal there’s misty glens. And that’s only scratching the surface. My highlight of the trip had to be watching otters on the shores of Loch Scridain. Along with my guide Bryan from Wild about Mull I watched the pair fishing, playing and grooming. Otters have been my favourite native species since childhood so this was magical. Other notable mentions are the beach at Traigh Bhan na Sgurra (Scoor.) The deserted white sandy bay looked exquisite in the late evening light and watching an eagle overhead made it even better. Watching the sunset from the top of the Mull of Kintyre was also spectacular, it felt like standing at the edge of the world! What’s great is that these landscapes can be so easily accessed from Glasgow. Some of the places I visited are only an hour away and even the most remote areas like the Mull of Kintyre may take up to four hours by car, but the entire journey is just as special as the destination itself with plenty options to stop and take in the amazing landscapes along the way.
