Scottish Field - - LETTERS -

We spent two very comfy nights at Douneside House, in Sir Roderic’s room. So we were delighted to read Lady Juliet Edmonstone’s article on the house and its garden [August 2019]. Her article combines the sad family history with the inspiring work on the gardens, initiated by Lady MacRobert. Lack of space may have prevented mention of Lady MacRobert’s grave in a peaceful spot to the side of the lawn.

She left a memorable legacy: four hurricane fighter planes, The MacRobert Trust, funded many local projects in Tarland and at Aberdeen and Stirling universities, CHAS Rachel House in Fife, named after her, the MacRobert Engineering award and nearby Alastrean House as an assisted living home, to name but a few. A truly remarkable lady. Fiona Garwood (née MacRobert), Edinburgh
