MADE WITH LOVE

-

Some of my fondest memories involving my mother and grandmother are of the times we spent cooking and baking together. Whether it was a simple (but firm favourite) macaroni cheese or some plain scones, I loved being able to help and get stuck in.

It's why I read Rosie Morton's piece in the March 2020 issue on children's lack of food knowledge [The children who think cows lay eggs, p30] with despair.

While I remember making pizza, swiss rolls and tomato penne pasta in my early high school years, learning how to make basic meals at home was also a frequent and fun activity. It triggered a curiosity about cooking that I still have today. While I can't boast about my baking skills, I like to think I'm a decent enough home cook who likes to experiment with flavours and can pull one or two fancy dishes out of the bag should the occasion arise.

I hope the joy of cooking with little ones is something the next generation of parents embrace so more kids are armed not only with basic skills but also with wonderful cherished memories like mine. Sophie Anderson, Inverurie
