St Kilda centre is a go
A visitor centre devoted to the remote island of St Kilda is to be built on the Isle of Lewis. The protected Unesco World Heritage site was abandoned by its inhabitants in 1930, with St Kilda’s main island, Hirta, only being occupied for short periods each year by National Trust for Scotland staff and volunteers, and Ministry of Defence scientists and contractors. The centre will be built in phases, with the first part costing £2million.
