Scottish Seabird Centre
Dive in to the Scottish Seabird Centre this spring! Enjoy great days out at the seaside with the five-star Scottish Seabird Centre. Located in the beautiful coastal town of North Berwick, just 35 minutes from Edinburgh, the Centre is perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the islands of the Firth of Forth. The islands, including national nature reserve the Isle of May, are home to internationally important colonies of breeding seabirds.
Their award-winning Discovery Experience transports visitors, deep into a variety of Scottish marine habitats, including kelp forests, cold-water coral reefs and the waters around the Bass Rock. The all new games and exhibits, designed in partnership with the team at Glasgow Science Centre, reinforce the charity’s role to communicate the wonders of Scotland’s seas, the wildlife that live there, and the challenges they face, including climate change, invasive non-native species and marine plastics.
Visitors can use interactive live cameras to zoom in on amazing seasonal wildlife in their natural habitat, including puffins, razorbills, guillemots, gannets and seals. The expert staff are on hand to talk through what can be seen throughout the year and update visitors on the latest wildlife sightings.
The Bass Rock, visible from the Centre, is the world’s largest Northern gannet colony. This wildlife wonder can be experienced firsthand on their exhilarating guided boat trips or they also run trips to the Isle of May, where thousands of puffins return to breed each spring.
There is plenty to keep the little ones entertained, with wildlife trails, interactive games, VR experience and Easter holiday live science shows.
