TURNBULL SALUTED
Works from the estate of Dundee-born artist William Turnbull, hailed as one of the most influential British sculptors of the 20th century, sold for a combined £334,625 during an online auction held by Sotheby's on 10-17 June. Two of his characteristic bronzes, Blade Venus I and Venus, led the auction, selling for £81,250 and £62,500 respectively. Turnbull was born in 1922 and served as a Royal Air Force pilot during the Second World War. He studied at the Slade School of Fine Art and spent time with fellow artists in Paris in the late 1940s.
