Langholm community buyout hits its fundraising target
The South of Scotland’s largest community buyout is poised to go ahead after an ambitious fundraising campaign. The Bently Foundation contributed £500,000 to the effort, with the Woodland Trust chipping in £200,000 and The Langholm Initiative’s crowdfunding campaign raising a further £500,000. Buccleuch Estates agreed a revised price of £3.8m for more than 5,000 acres, with negotiations continuing over a further 5,300 acres. The community plans to turn the land into a nature reserve. langholminitiative.org.uk
