St Leonards

Situated in the heart of St Andrews, St Leonards is a forward-thinking, co-educational, boarding and day school which offers an outstanding education for pupils aged five to 18. St Leonards was named Scotland’s Independent School of the Year 2019 and, for three years running, was listed as the Top Independent School Sixth Form in Scotland for IB/A Level results.

St Leonards follows the globally-recognised International Baccalaureate curriculum, praised by students, parents, and admissions officers for its focus on deepening learning, offering wider subject options, and enriching minds. In Years 1-6 pupils follow the Primary Years Programme (PYP), before progressing to the Middle Years Programme (MYP). In the Sixth Form, students choose either the Diploma Programme (DP) or Career-related Programme (CP). St Leonards was the first school in Scotland to be accredited as an all-through IB school, and is one of two schools in the UK to actively offer all four programmes.

Over the past five years, the boarding houses have undergone a £4 million redevelopment. The renovated houses have state-of-the-art kitchens and spacious communal areas. The bedrooms have been fitted with new built-in beds, study spaces, storage, and lighting. Many bedrooms have sea views beyond the school playing fields. Full, flexi, and weekly boarding is available from age 10.

Outside the classroom, the leading five-tier St Leonards Golf Programme continues to go from strength to strength, the Duke of Edinburgh Award is the fastest growing of all Scottish independent schools, and an exciting calendar of trips and activities ensures pupils leave St Leonards equipped with the skills, and interests, to succeed in today’s ever-changing world.
