TRIED AND TESTED
WHAT IS IT? On Cloudrock Waterproof Boots, RRP £180 on-running.com
I WANT IT BECAUSE: I need a waterproof pair of boots for hiking that are flexible enough to run in when the terrain allows. The cushioned soles really put a spring in your step providing impressive impact protection and stability.
USEFUL FOR: Trail running and hiking.
HIGH POINT: They’re incredibly comfortable, practical and look cool enough to persuade even the most style conscious teen to wear them.
LOW POINT: The end of one of the hook eyelets snapped off after a couple of weeks, although this hasn’t affected the performance of the boots.
WHAT IS IT? Woolpower 400g Merino Full Zip Jacket, RRP £145 outwearltd.co.uk
I WANT IT BECAUSE: Baby, it’s cold outside! This Swedish company’s sustainable mid-layer jackets and base layers are designed for Scandi-low temperatures.
USEFUL FOR: Hiking, working outdoors, everyday use. This midlayer goes between a base layer (Woolpower’s 200 Zip Turtleneck is excellent) and a waterproof jacket.
HIGH POINT: Largely natural (70% Merino wool, 28% Polyamide, 2% Elastane), this terry-knit jacket is warm and comfortable, while its lack of seams reduces chafing and increases durability. A high collar, cuffs with thumb holes, full length zipper and longer back prevents gaps. LOW POINT: The sizing – buy a size bigger than you think you need.
