A round-up of what’s happening in Scotland’s countryside
TRIED AND TESTED WHAT IS IT? Decathlon Quechua camping tent, Arpenaz 4.1, RRP £159.99, decathlon.co.uk
I WANT IT BECAUSE: This will be so useful when travel restrictions lift/ festivals are back up and running.
USEFUL FOR: When you’re based in a campsite for a weekend or longer. It can take up to two adults and two children comfortably (or three adults). With a 1.9m height most adults can stand inside.
HIGH POINT: The blackout bedroom is brilliant. Perfect for long lies after a midnight star gazing trip. Robust enough to withstand gale-force winds.
LOW POINT: Heavy for backpacking, but a great all-rounder for long family trips.
WHAT IS IT? Keela Women’s Iona Adv Trousers, RRP £139.95, keelaoutdoors.com
I WANT IT BECAUSE: With staycations on the cards this year, tip top walking gear is essential to keep out Scotland’s sneaky winds.
USEFUL FOR: These highly durable, waterproof trousers could even be used on ski slopes they’re so cosy.
HIGH POINT: The 3/4 length leg zippers make them really easy to get into, even with boots on. Hightech condensation control fabric, as used by Mountain Rescue Teams, makes these comfortable and breathable. The articulated knee section also gives you extra room for movement.
LOW POINT: An investment piece, but I’m incredibly glad to have them in my arsenal for chilly hillwalks.
