Annie Kenyon homes
Contemporary flair blends with traditional values in Annie Kenyon homes
Set in the heart of rural Aberdeenshire, near the village of Insch, lies Pyke a small development of four beautiful homes, designed by award-winning architect Annie Kenyon. Idyllically placed with an open outlook across the surrounding countryside and beautiful views up to the nearby 13th century Dunnydeer Castle, Pyke, with a style that seamlessly combines progression and tradition, sits harmoniously in the landscape.
Built around the existing structures of a small farm, Annie’s designs have sympathetically and cleverly blended the old with the new, to create stunning, contemporary homes.
The development comprises a former farmhouse, a mill conversion, steading conversion and a new build; each one unique in design, inside and out, but each one embracing the best principles of architecture throughout.
Completed in 2019, Pyke is a typical example of the projects carried out by Annie Kenyon Architects (ak | a) in partnership with Annie Kenyon Developments (ak | d), bringing together a style and approach that is rooted in tradition but contemporary in spirit.
‘Our homes have a clean, modern style but reflect the tradition and culture of rural Scotland,’ said Annie. ‘Within that, our principle objective is to deliver homes that make our clients happy.’
Annie set up ak |a in 2006. In 2017, she and partner Duncan Barton launched sister company, (ak |d), which combines Annie’s skills as an architect and Duncan’s expertise in project management and strategic planning.
Since then, supported by a great team, both companies have won awards which recognise their excellence of design and innovative approach.
ak|d is the only developer in the area that builds architecturally-designed homes to order. The company’s unique business model gives clients all the benefits of a custom-built, architect-designed home as a stress and risk free alternative to the self-build route.
‘Self-building is extremely rewarding but can be hugely challenging,’ said Duncan. ‘Our business model offers the benefits of a bespoke architecturally-designed home without the hassle.’
The company has an extensive portfolio of available sites across Aberdeenshire. Developments are typically in rural locations of one to four homes. Buyers choose a plot and work with the team to create a home that’s unique to them. ak|d looks after everything else, including funding. The funding model means that rather than clients having to navigate the complexities of securing a self-build mortgage, the build is funded by ak|d with the buyers paying a fixed price on date of entry.
Current projects include a small development of five contemporary new-build homes in the village of Methlick and the redevelopment of a redundant steading at Ellon to create five homes. Coming soon are developments at Colpy, near Insch; Udny, Cruden Bay, Echt, Westhill, Longside and the Tarves area.
