Bramble Cottage
Having stayed there for a gloriously relaxing weekend, I’m pretty sure if I looked up the definitions of cosy and idyllic, they would come accompanied by pictures of Bramble Cottage. This little slice of heaven is located about a mile up a single-track road outside the East Lothian town of Pencaitland surrounded by rolling farmland and woods.
We were met at the cottage by Suzie the owner who could not have made us feel more welcome. The architectdesigned interior has made the most of the limited footprint and the Tardis-like transformation gives masses of usable space and somehow manages to squeeze a luxury bathroom and a separate downstairs shower room into the one-bedroom accommodation.
Indulgent touches come in the form of beautiful soft furnishings, a luxury welcome hamper and Molton Brown toiletries. The kitchen is spacious and exceptionally well equipped, while the bedroom is elegantly indulgent. As you would expect from a property rated as five-star there is decent WiFi and a Smart TV with Netflix and digital channels. Outside there is an area for dining and a barbecue if the weather plays ball.
And outside is the place to be – our pre-dinner stroll through the adjacent woods on Saturday night yielded sightings of deer, pheasant, a trio of feisty hares and not a single human being in sight. This really is the ideal spot to get away and recharge those batteries.
