Balloch Park Luxury Lodges

- REVIEWED BY STAFF WRITER MORAG BOOTLAND

Just east of Mains of Taymouth (an old family favourite of ours) sit the luxury lodges that make up Balloch Park. Our lodge for the weekend, Tanfield, was easily located and we were pleasantly surprised by its Tardis-like interior.

The spacious open-plan living/kitchen/dining area was flooded with light and conveniently had doors leading out to a patio area with gas BBQ and seating, and to the side where the hot tub is hidden away. The kitchen was incredibly well kitted-out making self-catering a breeze. There are three good-sized bedrooms, the master is ensuite. We loved the little boot room/laundry at the entrance. The perfect place to shed muddy layers and boots and to clean off mucky pups of the human and canine variety. The whole lodge is decorated and fitted out to a very high standard; we particularly enjoyed the awesome rain shower.

Balloch Park is a short drive from Kenmore, where the River Tay meets the Loch of the same name. There’s a pleasant river-side walk into the village which wasn’t too challenging for the children. There’s lots to do in and around Kenmore – we took the kayak for a wee outing and finished off with a swim.

Mains of Taymouth is also home to a riding stable, golf course, restaurant and deli, so you need never venture far from your lodge. But, if you’d like to explore the area there’s a watersports centre, the Scottish Crannog Centre, Loch Tay safaris or Karelia House, a café and craft centre nearby.
