Where are we?

-

This island was once part of the Norse Kingdom of Mann and the Isles. It has a population of around 18,500, and covers 683 square miles making it the largest of the Western Isles. The island’s Gaelic name Leòdhas may be derived from Norse Ljoðahús (‘song house’). The island’s town Stornoway is home to one third of the population.
