Scholarly sale

A Scottish university is to benefit from the sale of a painting. Poppies, by John William Godward, features Miss Ethel Warwick. It sold at Lyon & Turnbull for £447,000. Previously owned by the late Dr Helen E C Cargill Thompson, it had been in her possession for many years, and the proceeds will go towards an endowment fund at the University of Strathclyde. lyonandturnbull.com
