IT'S TIME TO TAKE A STAND

Having belatedly read Richard Bath's excellent article 'Is Shooting Doomed?' [January 2021] I was saddened to learn that the RSPB had caved in to populist sentiment by abandoning its previously neutral stance on game shooting.

Ignoring studies which suggest that wellmanaged shoots and game habitats actually provide environmental as well as economic benefits, the RSPB has surrendered to the illinformed Green lobby and to the Scottish Government's antishooting ideology.

I have therefore cancelled my longstanding RSPB membership and explained to them in detail why I felt compelled to do so. Maybe Scottish Field readers who still belong to the organisation may consider doing likewise.
