VYING FOR CITY OF CULTURE HONOUR
Three Scottish areas are in the running for the UK City of Culture in 2025. Stirling, the Tay Cities region and the Borderlands region, comprising Dumfries and Galloway, Scottish Borders, Northumberland, Cumbria and Carlisle City, have all applied. They face opposition from areas including Cornwall, Derby and Wolverhampton. A record 20 bidders will be reduced to an initial long list then cut down further to a final shortlist in early 2022. The winner will be announced by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport in May 2022.
