A girl's best friend
I was absolutely spellbound when I discovered the feature on ethical diamonds in The Luxury Issue of Scottish Field [Diamonds are Forever].
I'm lucky enough to own a beautiful diamond engagement ring which I had made especially for me using the diamonds from my grandmother's engagement ring. I've often wished that I knew more about the stones and where they originated, but more recently I'd come to realise that their provenance might not make for a fascinating and romantic tale, but might just be a horror story of conflict, cruelty and damage.
I remember how it felt when I first wore the ring and like a magpie I'd be regularly distracted by the twinkling of the stones in the sunlight. For many years I've wished to have a pair of simple diamond earrings to match my treasured ring, but those horror stories have always prevented me from either buying them or asking for them for a big birthday.
But now I have hope that there might be an ethical way for me to own these long awaited sparklers. It may be an unusual thing for a girl to look forward to, but roll on my 60th birthday!
