Scottish Field

A traveller's diary

-

Many congratulations on the release of the recent Luxury issue of Scottish Field. I always look forward to this time of year when the shiny new edition lands on my doorstep. But where to begin with what I enjoyed – there are too many.

I guess my Wanderlust was piqued by The Great Escape article, where your writer takes us through ten different places in Scotland for a staycation. When I was younger, and without need of these dreaded walking aids, I was quite the traveller. I loved getting away from home and many of my best memories were made in distant towns and lands. But seeing a focus on Scottish locations has reminded me of the wonders we have right here on our doorstep.

My travels to places like Alaska and Mexico were an exciting time, made more so by the people I was with. Trips to these places in your top ten would be just as memorable and I can already imagine myself drifting through the water in that magnificent yacht or indulging in the splendour of The Fife Arms Hotel in Braemar. You have made an old lady very happy through your pages.

On an aside, my granddaughter and I were looking through the pages the other morning and she was so taken by the photographs. She is an animal fan and after seeing the photo of the dog on the cover said that she was going to take pictures of animals for a job one day. She is a long way off yet, but perhaps one day she will grace your pages.

So a life lesson from an old lady like me: live life while you can, hold tight the good company that you keep, and dream big like my darling granddaughter – no matter how old you are.

Many thanks for yet another superb issue. Keep up the good work!
