I WANT IT BECAUSE:

It’s stylish and practical, and has beautiful leather, suede and buckle details round the collar. It comes in a range of gorgeous colours, though the autumnal hues of the Cinnamon version are hard to beat.

USEFUL FOR:

Throwing on top of big knit jumpers on cold walks. It’s machine washable (30°C) – a bonus for owners of boisterous, muddy dogs.

HIGH POINT:

It is fully waterproof, windproof and breathable. Pockets are deep enough for phones, and the all-important dogs biscuits. Detachable hood is so useful.

LOW POINT: Nothing! I shall be living in this for the foreseeable.

I WANT IT BECAUSE:

Ariat’s reputation goes before it. These are an ultra-smart, stylish update on the traditional field riding boot. They have elasticised laces and a Duratread outsole for traction.

USEFUL FOR: Tall people competing – these are very smart boots with a slim fit and beautiful soft full-grain leather.

HIGH POINT: The fantastic 4LR footplate tech means no aching feet after a long day in the saddle and second skin feel.

LOW POINT: No true low point but took couple of rides for the high back to just settle comfortably behind my knee with short stirrups.
