Dame Hilary takes her second title

Dame Hilary Mantel has collected her second Walter Scott Prize at the Baillie Gifford Borders Book Festival. Held at Abbotsford, the home of Sir Walter Scott, she received her £25,000 Walter Scott Prize for The Mirror and the Light. She takes the prestigious accolade for the second time, having first won the prize 12 years ago, in its inaugural year. Her initial win was for Wolf Hall, which was later adapted as a successful television series. Dame Hilary was also kept busy as she presented the winners of The Young Walter Scott Prizes with their awards.
