TRIED & TESTED
WHAT IS IT? Bluetti AC200P portable solar generator and three-piece 200W solar panel kit. RRP £3,399, bluetti.co.uk
I WANT IT BECAUSE:
This system allows you to exist away from the grid and is the perfect home back-up in case of power failure.
USEFUL FOR: Building projects, campervans, camping, off-grid living, areas suffering blackouts.
HIGH POINT:
There are five ways to charge it: from an electrical point, solar panels, car engine, gas-fired generator or lead battery. It has a smart touch display and automatically powers down when the output is low for four hours in case you forget to turn it off.
LOW POINT:
The unit is surprisingly heavy, so may not be quite as portable as you might think.
WHAT IS IT? Woolpower Full Zip Jacket 400. RRP £143, alpinetrek.co.uk
I WANT IT BECAUSE:
Woolpower’s Ulfrotte material was developed with the Swedish military in the 1970s and has unique insulation properties and superb moisture management. It’s comfortable, breathable, robust, sensibly priced and sustainably produced.
USEFUL FOR:
Layering. Use it with Woolpower’s other merino layers, like the Crewneck Lite and Zip Turtle Neck 200, and you’re ready for most outdoor conditions, including snow and severe cold.
HIGH POINT:
I love the fact that each garment is made from beginning to end by a single seamstress, who signs the label.
LOW POINT: It’s not waterproof and can get heavy when wet.
