St Leonards School

-

Situated in the heart of St Andrews, St Leonards is a forward-thinking, co-educational, boarding and day school which offers an outstanding education for pupils aged five to 18. St Leonards has been at the forefront of education in Scotland and beyond since its foundation in 1877, combining a progressive and global outlook with history and tradition. All pupils, from Year 1 up to Year 13, follow the globally-recognised International Baccalaureate curriculum, praised by students, parents, and admissions officers for its focus on deepening learning, offering wider subject options, and enriching minds. St Leonards was the first school in Scotland to be accredited as an all-through IB school, and is one of two schools in the UK to actively offer all four programmes. In Years 1-6, pupils follow the Primary Years Programme (PYP), before progressing to the Middle Years Programme (MYP). In the Sixth Form, students choose either the Diploma Programme (DP) or Career-related Programme (CP).

Timetables are designed to establish a healthy balance of outstanding extracurricular activities alongside academic studies, with over 50 activities offered including the leading five-tier St Leonards Golf Programme, www.scottishfield.co.uk delivered in partnership with the St Andrews Links Golf Academy, and swimming in the school’s 25m pool. This, combined with an exciting calendar of trips and activities, ensures pupils leave St Leonards equipped with the skills and interests to succeed in today’s ever-changing world.

Full, flexi, and weekly boarding at St Leonards is available from age 10. The boarding houses have recently undergone an extensive £5 million redevelopment, creating stylish, spacious communal areas with stateof-the-art kitchens. Bedrooms are fitted with built-in beds and study spaces, modern storage and lighting, with many benefitting from stunning sea views towards St Andrews Bay, and across the school playing fields to the countryside.

Day buses run throughout Fife, Tayside and

Perthshire, including Cupar, Perth, Dundee, Kirkcaldy, Leuchars train station and the East Neuk.

At the start of the 2021-22 academic year, St Leonards welcomed new Head Simon Brian. Prior to his appointment, Mr Brian was Deputy Head (Academic) at Charterhouse School, Surrey. He brings a wealth of educational leadership experience from his first Deputy Headship at Cheltenham College, and from various roles at prestigious London day schools, namely Dulwich College and Highgate School.

Mr Brian is continuing to build on the school’s thriving co-curricular programme, academic ambition, pioneering heritage, international outlook, and welcoming community, ensuring that St Leonards continues to provide an outstanding education ‘Ad Vitam’ (for life).
