A personal touch
In today's world, where many of us are guilty of staring at our blue-screened phones more than we do a newspaper or a paperback, it seems all the more important to keep traditional arts alive. For me, letter writing is one of them.
Over the Christmas and New Year period, I find it such a joy receiving handwritten cards from family and friends, learning of where they are, how their children are doing, and being reminded again that the world keeps on turning amidst the madness of pandemics and lockdowns. As such, I thought that I would put pen to paper myself and write to you at Scottish Field magazine.
Last month's [February 2022 edition] magazine was so full of beautiful images that I scarcely knew where to begin. I particularly enjoyed reading about the adventures of John Thomson, the pioneering photographer who ventured through the Far East. What a remarkable tale! And to have done so with such heavy equipment and in times where face masks and hand sanitiser did not exist, it really is quite unimaginable. I do hope to visit the exhibition in Edinburgh before it comes to an end.
Wishing you all a wonderful year ahead, and here's to more interesting articles in 2022. Elizabeth Watters, Edinburgh
