£500,000 DONATION

A bid to double the size of a vast new nature reserve in Dumfries and Galloway was boosted by an anonymous private donation of £500,000. The community of Langholm is bidding to purchase another 5,300 acres of Langholm Moor from Buccleuch Estates before May. Public crowdfunder donations have raised £50,000. www.bit.ly/LangholmMoorAppeal
