I WANT IT BECAUSE: It is 100% waterproof and has 50% more insulation than their standard model so it’s the warmest and driest jacket I’ve encountered.

USEFUL FOR: It is breathable and has under-arm ventilation, but is one for gentle exercise in the cold and wet rather than testing hikes. HIGH POINT: Good details such as deep hand-warmer pockets, detachable hood, large double-sided zips, and internal pockets,

LOW POINT: With warmth comes weight and bulk, so you can feel a little like a Michelin man/woman.

I WANT IT BECAUSE: Barbour’s reputation goes before it having provided stylish, durable gear since 1894. (My first Barbour has barely left my back for over 15 years). This is a true classic with enduring style.

USEFUL FOR: All seasons, all weathers, and all eventualities. You can layer it up or dress it down, use it for long walks or trips into town.

HIGH POINT: The moleskin-lined handwarmer pockets are a fab addition for cold weather, and the inner zip pocket is a safe place for valuables. LOW POINT: Nothing. Investing in this quality item cuts out the need for buying less well-made items more frequently.
