in Portobello may surprise you. Our fresh and modern homes boast luxury facilities including their own spacious activity room, hair and beauty, café, library, and cinema. Each home’s outdoor spaces have also been specially designed and include relaxing terraces and secure sensory themed gardens for residents to explore. The three homes owned and managed by awardwinning provider Care UK, provide a wide range of round-the-clock care to suit different needs, including residential, dementia, nursing and respite care*. Families can have the reassurance that their loved ones can remain living at the home should their needs change. As one of the UK’s most successful care home operators with 128 care homes across England and Scotland, Care UK has over 35 years’ experience of delivering the very best care and support for older people.

Our new purpose-built care homes

Cairdean House has been designed to the latest dementia standards, with nine individual suites, allowing just 10 residents within each to benefit from small scale living, and a private en-suite bedroom. This gives residents an opportunity to become part of a close-knit family and is also a benefit to those living with dementia to develop stronger relationships with staff. The smaller suites are also a benefit during times of Covid, allowing suites to be closed off and maintained for infection, prevention, and control. Lauder Lodge has been built over three floors and features a range of lounge and dining areas, spacious activity areas and beautifully decorated private en-suite bedrooms. Within, you’ll be able to enjoy a contemporary café with a terrace, a stateof-the-art cinema room and a hair and beauty salon – perfect for enabling your loved one to enjoy the best care while getting the most out of every day. Outside, you’ll discover our wonderful wrap around garden with incredible views of Arthur’s Seat and out across the Forth to Fife. Murrayside opened in October 2018. Each of its 63 bedrooms is individually styled and has en-suite facilities, a widescreen television and electronically adjustable bed. Rooms on the ground floor open onto our lovely secure gardens which have been designed by specialist landscape architect, Annie Pollock. Rooms on the upper floors also have lovely views and residents there have access to east facing sun terraces with views towards Edinburgh Castle and Arthur’s Seat.

Caring and experienced teams

As one of the UK’s top care home providers, it should come as no surprise that our teams enjoy an award-winning training and induction programme and that our care is built around the latest academic research and knowledge. These high standards are clearly evident in the care we provide, making sure all residents get the most out of every day by having fun, staying safe, and keeping as healthy and active as possible. Led by nurses, the care provided in our homes ensures we can deliver a personalised approach to allow residents to continue to lead a fulfilling life while receiving the care they need. Most importantly, our staff bring a kind and caring approach, a willingness to go the extra mile and a passion for keeping residents safe, happy, and well cared for.

Trusted to care

With safety at the forefront of everyone’s minds right now, our Edinburgh homes have enhanced their already-robust infection control measures and a regular coronavirus testing programme for all residents and colleagues, to keep everyone safe. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Care UK has always followed Government advice. Whilst we have always had clear processes in place to prevent and contain infection, our pandemic plan includes a number of measures to provide families looking for care with additional reassurance. Once you decide to join us, we will work with you to organise your admission around your needs and assist you in arranging the necessary Covid-19 testing.

Fulfilling lives

Our caring and passionate teams continue to go above and beyond to ensure residents’ lives remain as normal and busy as possible. During the pandemic many people suffered due to loneliness but our residents have had the benefit of being able to make new friends with residents and staff, becoming a part of our family. We have found new ways to keep residents occupied, with socially distanced exercise and choir groups, virtual bingo and online dance classes. During COVID-19, residents have continued to do the small things that keep us all happy – a walk in the garden, good conversation and the occasional cake or two! From your loved one’s initial assessment we start finding out all we can about them so we can ensure their care and lifestyle meets their unique needs. We continue finding out all we can about your loved one throughout their time with us - learning about their life and family, the jobs they’ve done, the places they’ve visited, even down to their hobbies, favourite films, foods and routines. Everything we learn is captured in a life story book which we continue to update with the new memories your loved one makes.
