Bruce Walker from Knock Castle in North Ayrshire has become the oldest man to complete the Marathon des Sables, at the age of 73. Running with his wife Nicky, a triathlete, and oldest son Digby, the event (also known as the Sahara Marathon) is a six-day, 156-mile ultramarathon, approximately the distance of six regular marathons. He came 800th out of 801. Bruce’s running raised £4,000 for the charity Citywise. www.citywise.org
