TRIED AND TESTED
WHAT IS IT? Timberland Garrison Trail Hiker, www,timberland.co.uk, RRP £147
I WANT IT BECAUSE: These are a great all-round pair of boots that have been comfortable from the first wear. They have good environmental credentials, using recycled plastics from landfill and leather from a sustainable tannery,
USEFUL FOR: Perfect for everyday wear – such as dog walking and marching around at work – but they’re also tough enough for a day’s hiking in the Pentlands too, even on a wet day.
HIGH POINT: They offer good support without being too high around the ankle.
LOW POINT: The sole has good grip but could be more hard-wearing. Supposedly waterproof, but weren’t.
WHAT IS IT? Zone3 Heat-Tech Changing Robe, www.zone3.com, RRP £139
I WANT IT BECAUSE: High performance runs in Zone3’s DNA having been founded by elite triathlete James Lock. Their products promise to suit everyone from beginners to World Champs.
USEFUL FOR: This has been an absolute game-changer for warming up after water sessions (rowing/paddleboarding/ swimming). You can get changed underneath it, or simply thaw out with the heat-tech polar fleece lining that absorbs water and genuinely feels like a warm hug.
HIGH POINT: It is wind/water resistant, and the triple-layer construction means the jacket regulates temperature. Deep fluffy pockets, Velcro wrist straps and a fitted hood mean every puff of wind is blocked. LOW POINT: It is deliberately oversized so order a size down if you’re not changing under it.
