KINGSWAY Children’s Centre has officially opened its new nursery as part of North Lindsey College’s redevelopment plan.

The Ofsted Outstanding Kingsway Children’s Centre has undergone a £600k investment and has now been relocated to make way for the new £38m teaching building at North Lindsey College.

The new nursery, delivered by Gelder Construction, was built using recycled materials, creating a more sustainable building for the next generation of children.

The nursery is now more in line with the DN Colleges Group sustainability agenda by providing a net zero carbon footprint.

Remaining on the college campus, the fresh space offers places for 40 children and incorporates two rooms: one for pre-school children and one for babies.

Karen Copperwheat, Kingsway Children’s Centre nursery manager, said: “We are delighted to have a brand-new nursery.

“Our focus is always on the children and providing a safe and rewarding environment.

“The children have really enjoyed having a new building and have been involved in the transition from the offset.

“The children particularly enjoy the increased outdoor space, and we also have an area which we are going to use as a forest school which will attract more wildlife.

“Some of the bricks from the old nursery were also kept back and the children are planning on building a bug house from them.

“It’s an exciting time and the children have totally embraced it.”

Holly Mumby-Croft, MP for Scunthorpe, officially opened the nursery and the children presented her with some flowers.

Mumby-Croft said: “I was delighted to be invited to cut the ribbon at the Kingsway Children’s Centre at North Lindsey College.

“I received such a warm welcome from everyone there and all the children I met were a true credit to their parents.

“Every parent and grandparent wants the best for their children and grandchildren, and ever since my election I’ve been down in London asking for more money for our schools and colleges so that children in Scunthorpe have access to the best educational facilities.

“This £38m investment from the Government comes on top of the tens of millions we’ve had already, but residents can be assured that I will always keep backing our corner and asking for more.

“The dedication that the staff at Kingsway Children’s Centre have to caring for children in our area is inspirational and I want to pay tribute to them.

“They thoroughly deserve the three consecutive ‘outstanding’ Ofsted reports that they have achieved! Everyone involved has done such a fantastic job here and I cannot wait to see more of the project as it gets completed.”
